WBL

Just before christmas I had to paint the curve back drop so it was clear white and you couldn't see any marks on it as sometimes you got kids clamping it when being photographed and things like that.

This taken three coats of paint, The 1st coat of paint taken an hour but then the other two layers didn't take long at all.

This photograph below is the log book to show when people are using the studio. This book is used as a reference to show who is booked in the studio on that protocolar day. Its also used to show who is using the product tables and what equipment is out at that present time.

This picture was taken in the darkroom to show my cleaning skills. I should of done a before and after just to show what it was like before I began cleaning. But trust me it was a mess. Most wednesday mornings first thing I get asked to clean the dark room as the tuesday night katy has a lecture on how to process and develop film.

Still life.

This is a set up I done in the studio for the 1st years on my work based learning assignment. It was tricky to keep the bike still as it was heavy and I found it hard to get the balance right. The first thing I tried was using fishing wire but it just wasn't sturdy enough and found it hard to keep the bike up right position.

World War 2 clothes.

I want to begin by looking at clothes in the world way and then see how todays fashion works with people between 18 and 30 because you can see how clothes in the 1920s are used even today. I want to get magazines and books over vintage clothing and also background research of the fashion industry.

One thing that I automatically think about when thinking of todays fashion and how clothes from the war are warn today is the military jacket because a lot of people at all ages are wearing them as a fashion icon.

Below are some old photographs of solders with military jackets on. Collection of World War 2 colour photos mainly from Eastern Front.

Here are photographs of people in fashion and how the military jacket are still being used. I really do find this interesting and am considering doing a shoot and my theme to be military theme as I am positive I could get some great photographs in this style.

Looking at Tokyo fashion

TOKYO FASHION

I am looking at Tokyo fashion because I have always been interested in this style and love the colours. I was thinking on shooting in film but using the pictures below as influences and a reference for what am trying to achieve.

I am also wanting to shoot with a aperture of 2.5 and i fast shutter speed and will be using a nikon fm3a with a 45mm pancake lens which is a great lens to get close up and capture really good detail, tones and features.

I am also thinking about doing this but having a blur background and then the focus in the subject really bland and highlighted colours.

I am looking for a model that is not tall as people in tokyo tend to be short. I am still unsure with what i want to do for my fashi0n but do have a model in mind.
.......................................

This is the model i have in mind as i think she has that Tokyo style and is quite short but does have that look about her.

Fashion Time line

My Fashion time line consists from the 1920s to the present.

I designed it on adobe photoshop CS3 and I made the page size to A3 and cropped the hight so I would get a long strip like affect. I wanted to use pictures and then at the side of the pictures wanted to put a description next to it.

Here are some screen shots of my 1st attempt to make the fashion time line.

As you can see from the screen shot above it has been done in photoshop CS3.
To get a full show of the time line I had to move the navergater on the top right hand side of the screen. Below I have another screen shot of where the navergater is.

If you more the bar left or right the image you are working on will inflate or deflate depending on what way you move the bar. In my case I moved the bar to the left to deflate the time line to give you a better idea and a clear shot of my time line.

I have done some more screen shots to show in more detail of the time line. Also i have printed this tile line out and is now in my sketchbook.

Fashion first steps.

In one of the monday morning lectures I was given a sort of to do list for this fashion assignment.

Brief Screen shots.

1930s Fashion History

In the 1930s there was a return to a more genteel, ladylike appearance. Budding rounded busts and waistline curves were seen and hair became softer and prettier as hair perms improved. Foreheads which had been hidden by cloche hats were revealed and adorned with small plate shaped hats. Clothes were feminine, sweet and tidy by day with a return to real glamour at night. Right - Fashionable sleek day dress of 1936.

Until the 1930s wealthy women had not really needed to wear practical day clothes. Although styles had been designated day styles if they were impractical it had not really mattered as long as maids took care of chores. Now women had more productive and busier lives and simpler pared down clothes gave a freedom of movement women relished in daily life. More luxurious gowns were kept for evening. New fabrics like metallic lame were very popular at night and were made to shimmer even more richly by adding plastic sequins and glass beads.

Fashion of the 1930s was directly influenced by the great Wall Street Crash of October 24, 1929 and subsequent Depression. The Autumn, 1930 Sears Catalogue admonished, “Thrift is the spirit of the day. Reckless spending is a thing of the past.” The beginning of the decade saw women sewing more. Clothing was mended and patched before being replaced.

Fashion from the 1930s ... the 1930's is an interesting period, both stylistically and historically.... of course history, fashion and style are all integrally related. Generally fashions of the 1930s are thought of as glamorous and sensuous. This is the era of the big bands, dancing and night life. The dresses are long and elegant, evening gowns were often backless and importantly there develops a very distinct difference between daywear and evening wear.
Hollywood and the movies also begin to be very influential to the fashion industry as people wanted to wear the styles they had seen on the screen.
