GRAVEYARD.













The sereas of Crosby beach images are a fine art project i was set out to do. I started of photographing in the studio of a student and really liked the photographs i preduced. I felt confidant that the pictures i had fitted the Fine Art set perfectly untill i had a one to one assessment with my tutor who is marking this unit. the photographs had where more bassed around fashion and not fine art as such. I come out of the assessment a bit down because i felt that my photographs are strong for this unit. Unfortinatly i could not hand the set of images in so my next step was to think about how i can do a fine art shoot and use a set of images that went  well together and had a relation to the human condition.

First i come up with an idea of photographing my nan in her house but felt that this could be done for a future unit. The photographs i had taken at Crosby Beach was to relate to the human condition and i was thinking about having a human next to a sculpture to try and capture still ness and pease. I thought if i used a dress that flows in the find and looked naturel and then having a strong sculpture that is solid then it sould be sereal and give the vuewer i different perseption of just a beach with iron men on. I felt that the shoot went really well had was a great do to take photographs.On the day of the shoot i had the model and an assistant who helped me with this shoot. The model, Christy Litter who done a great job dealing with the dress and having to walk in wet sand in her boots, All this was for me and i couldnt of done this with out her. Also my assistant was faye rowley who also helped me with the dress, keeping it up right and tiet to her body using safty pins and a lot of pashints due to the safty pins coming undone everytime she moved.

The dress was a size 14 and the model is only a size 10 i think but i thought thats a good idea to have the dress big so it can flow in the find. Unfortinatly it wasnt so windy that day but i cant canplain coz the weather was great. I wated to have a old phone in the shoot to make it more interesting and also makes the images stand out. The idea with the telephone was really for the shhot in the graveyard. Again i liked the statues and grave stones and wanted to portray comunication in to worlds. The underworld and this world.

This is a photograph of working class people crowding two decks of a transatlantic steamer to me it is a photograph that shows how life is even in this day and age. You still get the people that cant afford the luxury of 1st call because they simply cant afford it but in the way people who can afford the 1st class are looking down at the people who are unable to pay. This photograph was first published at "Camera Work" 36th October, 1911.


Alfred Stieglitz was an American photographer and is known for introducing fine art photography into museums.

Candid Photography research

Candid photography is photography that focuses on spontaneity rather than technique. Your subject's focus is not on the camera, but on their current task. So we're not talking about the photo albums full of people looking at the camera and smiling here! Candid photos are usually simple photos without a lot of technical equipment or any time taken setting up the shot. Thus they capture some wonderful slices of life.

Corporate Photography

Corporate Photography, i am not to fond even though that is where i make my money from doing. The thing is with Corporate photography is i find it boring because its all staged and you have them were you want them and everything is done like that.

Here are some scanned in pictures from one of the lectures with Adrew and we had to find images that went with the total like for instance: Candid we had to put a Candid photograph under the title Candid just so we understood what photography is what, th others where Corporate, Fine Art and Journalism


Here is some of my Corporate photographs done from 2009 to 2010

This is a friend i photographed at home. iI got him to put my hat scarf on and do something. He new i was taking the photograph and to me this is a Corporate image. (ABOVE)

This person above was standing on the street and makes money buy standing very still until someone drops money in the the bucket. I gave him 30p and he did this.

This is a builder i photographed when we was asked to go out and photograph Builders, Police man, Traffic warden and people that work in an invariant. This was to give us confidence to go and ask someone if we can take there photograph and also to get to use are cameras. For this photograph we used a reflector. (ABOVE)

This person again i asked if it would be ok to take his picture he said yes but looked away just after i taken it, he wasn't the nicest of people.

Candid Photography

Candid photography i really enjoy because i like the idea people don't know you are taking there photograph. I think street photography and photographing people either on the streets or indoors is recording something. I look back at photographs of the family of when my mum was younger and you see how different the clothes are and how the attitude has changed.  I think its a lot harder now to photograph in the street because people now want to know the reason for having a camera. Now candid photography personally i think is when you are taking a photograph of people or someone without there promotion. Lots of times i have had people confront me over taking there photograph and making me delete the image. I just like coming back from photographing the outdoors wether its photographing people or things on the street.

Here is a shot i taken in preston bus station waiting for the x59. I like taking pictures there because its full of different people and strange characters.

      
 This person above after taking the photograph run towards me and its funny thinking back at it now but at the time it wasn't. He run towards me shouting and was really angry i had taken a photograph of him and he come right up in my face an said 'did you just take a picture of me?' and i said yes its for a project in uni and i hope you don't mind and he smiled and i taped his back, smiled and walked off. The thing is, is if you ask someone if you can take there photograph there most likely going to say no because they feel embarrassed or intimidated so you cant win. I think the best thing to do when photographing people is doing it without there permission.

Here is another photograph i taken in preston bus station. Again this lady doidnt know i was taken her photograph but thats what makes the image i think. If she was looking at me would it be a better photograph? Personally not with this one i don't. Depending on how you go out and take photographs is up to you but i go out with a mind of just snap and shoot and i seem to get more people coming up to me and not liking the fact i had taken there photograph. I do think you need confidence to go out and take photographs of people on the street and thats why i like it so much because not only will i get good photographs, you are trying not to be caught out.

Here is another one of my photographs i had taken at my home in southport. I was taking pictures in my room messing about when my friends where about to leave and with this shot because they was so used to me taken there photograph it looks like they didn't know i was taking it. Because i was messing with my camera and taking random shots they left me and i taken a photograph of them. I think i caught the mood really well.

Places Research Michael wolf

Michael Wolf Photography

Michael Wolf was born in Munich, Germany. He spent most of his life in America but moved to Germany studying in the UC Berkley University of Essen in Germany. He has been working as a photographer and an author in China for ten years. Michael Wolf is a great landscape photographer and thought he would be a good photographer to look at on the places project.

When i photograph places and landscapes i am always thinking about Michael Wolf. I think his work is very good because of his crops and lots going on in the frame. some of his photographs have lots of colour and my favourite photographs of his are the Hong Kong sets he done.

Photographer - Simon Potter


Simon Potter is a corporate photographer and i found him on google and searched corporate photography. I seen a few corporate photographers but i liked Simon potters work better. simon Potter has been a photographer for twenty years. He says his style of photography is relaxed, spontaneous and fresh witch i think is right. I like his work because i think he has the same sort of style as me and looking at his work i thought it was very similar to mine.

Photographer - Henri Cartier-Bresson

Henri Cartier-Bresson was born in 1908 and died in 2004. I like Cartier Bressonts work because of the decisive moment in witch he photographs He was born in Chanteloun Seine-et-Merne. I personally think if Cartier-Bresson was still alive he would still be the best photographer ever. and i don't think even to this day anyone is as good as him. Henri Cartier Bresson was a magnum founder and a full member since 1947

Cartier-Bresson quoted : "To take a photograph is to align the head, the eye and the heart. It's a way of life."

Edward Weston was born in 1886 and died in 1958. Am not that interested in Art photography but a chosen Edward Weston because i find his photography well lit and has some great photographs.

Jody Ake

Here are some photographers i find interesting. My first photographer i am going to look at it Jody Ake. Jody Ake is a professional  photographer that lives in new york. He concentrates mainly on portraiture but is known to for his landscapes. Jody Photographs Portraits, still life and landscape using a wet collodion process that was invented in 1851. The method is coated in a glass plate with collodion and exposing the plate while it is still wet. I emailed Jody Ake and asked him what he does to get that affect on his photographs and he replied.

I am a Photography student at blackburn university in England and i really like your work. I cant stop looking at your portraits on the web. they are fantastic. Can i ask you what camera you use to get that effect with your portraits? I was also going to ask if you have ever had students come to you for work experience and if so then can i work along side you next year? It would be a life changing experience because i want to do my best in the photography world and doing work experience with you i feel i could get better and learn from your experience.

Hello ryan

Thank you for the nice email. To quickly answer you questions. My images look the way they do for a few reasons. I use a hundred year old 8x10 camera and even older lens. I also work in the historical wet collodion process. all of these factors and more contribute to the final look of the image. I rarely have students or interns. Mostly because my day to day activity is hard to predict. At the moment I am in new york but in the fall i could be moving to oregon. If you find your self in either place let me know.

Here is some of Jody Ake's photography.

I really like the effect he uses to have that border around the image and i don't think you will ever be abel to do this with a digital camera. I love the texture and the detail in the photographs and its a shame they don't make this type of photographic paper anymore.
