This link takes you to a website that shows you changers through to manipulation i.e. cross processing.

Researching i found a artist/photographer who photographs portraits not just people but dogs. His name is Robert Mcclintock.

I think the colours he uses are great. i like the brightness and the detail of the photograph and also the layout on how he has put them together.

Places (testing movie clip 1)

Click this to see my short movie clip of my places project.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rtSI5kIxuQ

I wanted to play with moving image and i like editing film and moving image as well.
I have tried uploading the film on to here but its not haven any of it! After three hours playing around with it and trying to upload the movie on to here i have decided to upload it to youtube. I am also going to put it on dvd and hand it in on the assessment date.
You tube has taken the sound from it so i don't think it is as good without sound. I done multimedia in southport college for two years and made many short films. This is the 1st one i have done in 2 years now and i really want to get back in to editing and film making. I am thinking of doing a voice over for this now i watched it without sound and am thinking of just having the photographs shown as normal and not with filters moving them. I Made this movie on imovie and in idvd. i did try adobe premiere pro cs3 but not used it in over two years so i thought i would play with it but use a easier and much more simple software.

Places Research. Walker Evans

Walker Evans (1903 - 1975)

Walker Evans is an American Photographer and is best know for documenting depression and Farm Security Administration. Walker Evans used a large-format, 8x10-inch camera. Walker Evans quoted  his goal as a photographer was to make pictures that are "literate, authoritative, transcendent" I found this information on wikipedia.

Evans's photo of Allie Mae Burroughs, a symbol of the Great Depression

Coca-Cola Shack

shoeshine stand

What i like about Walker Evans work is that the photographs all look flat and don't look 3d at all, like the shoeshine stand photograph and the Allie Mae Burroughs photograph.

Corporate photography

Photographer - Simon Potter

Simon Potter is a corporate photographer and i found him on google and searched corporate photography. I seen a few corporate photographers but i liked Simon potters work better. simon Potter has been a photographer for twenty years. He says his style of photography is relaxed, spontaneous and fresh witch i think is right. I like his work because i think he has the same sort of style as me and looking at his work i thought it was very similar to mine.

Candid Photography

Photographer - Henri Cartier-Bresson

Henri Cartier-Bresson was born in 1908 and died in 2004. I like Cartier Bressonts work because of the decisive moment in witch he photographs He was born in Chanteloun Seine-et-Merne. I personally think if Cartier-Bresson was still alive he would still be the best photographer ever. and i don't think even to this day anyone is as good as him. Henri Cartier Bresson was a magnum founder and a full member since 1947
Cartier-Bresson quoted : "To take a photograph is to align the head, the eye and the heart. It's a way of life."

Research on Portraiture

Jody Ake

Here are some photographers i find interesting. My first photographer i am going to look at it Jody Ake. Jody Ake is a professional  photographer that lives in new york. He concentrates mainly on portraiture but is known to for his landscapes. Jody Photographs Portraits, still life and landscape using a wet collodion process that was invented in 1851. The method is coated in a glass plate with collodion and exposing the plate while it is still wet. I emailed Jody Ake and asked him what he does to get that affect on his photographs and he replied.

Here is a screen shot of the email i sent him and is reply back to me. I am also thinking on doing work experience with him in the future.

This is the email i sent to Jody Ake.

Hi Jody.

I am a Photography student at blackburn university in England and i really like your work. I cant stop looking at your portraits on the web. they are fantastic. Can i ask you what camera you use to get that effect with your portraits? I was also going to ask if you have ever had students come to you for work experience and if so then can i work along side you next year? It would be a life changing experience because i want to do my best in the photography world and doing work experience with you i feel i could get better and learn from your experience.

Regards
ryan

This is my reply back from Jody Ake.

Hello ryan
Thank you for the nice email. To quickly answer you questions. My images look the way they do for a few reasons. I use a hundred year old 8x10 camera and even older lens. I also work in the historical wet collodion process. all of these factors and more contribute to the final look of the image. I rarely have students or interns. Mostly because my day to day activity is hard to predict. At the moment I am in new york but in the fall i could be moving to oregon. If you find your self in either place let me know.

best
Jody

Here is some of Jody Ake's photography.

I really like the effect he uses to have that border around the image and i don't think you will ever be abel to do this with a digital camera. I love the texture and the detail in the photographs and its a shame they don't make this type of photographic paper anymore.

This is a landscape from Jody Ake. Again the border is really good. love the old effect it has and the tones are brilliant.

Places. The Alien or Foreign enviroment

This photograph was taken in Berlin at 11:43am Berlin time. Berlin is a hour ahead of us so really it was taken at 10:43am. My camera settings was at a ISO of 500 f. stop of f4 and was taken on a canon eos 40d 17-85mm cannon lens. I decided to put this photograph in the Alien or Foreign environment because on the day of taking this photograph it seemed quiet and everyone was in bed from partying all night. I didn't get much sleep the night before this photograph was taking because i didn't get back to the hotel till 5. The day this photograph was taken i got up at 8 (9 in Berlin time) to explore berlin. That morning i didn't see anyone around until l i  got feather in to the city. When i seen this park i said to my self , I can't capture this mood in a photograph but thought i might as well take a picture.

I taken this shot below in colour originally but felt it would of been a better photograph in black and white.
I was looking to get a mood and a old look in this environment. When taken this shot i had to wait for 10 - 15 minutes to get this shot because there was a lot of tourists and they kept getting in the way. I dont thing this photograph would of been as good with someone in the shot.

Wilderness or Countryside

The City or the Urban Sprawl (Berlin) & (Slaughter farm)

This was taking on the streets of Berlin. This shot is one of my favourite photographs taken in Berlin. I have on the photograph three watermarks because i don't want my work getting robed. I put this car images in to the City or the urban sprawl because i think the street i was in and the city i was in was very urban at times. Sometimes in Berlin i felt scared and intimidated sometimes because of some of the situations i get my self in to. As a photographer i always try to take a photograph and capture the mood and atmosphere in the image. This was taken with the canon eos 40d 6mm lens.

This is the same car but with a different lens. I used a canon eos 40d and had a 17 85mm lens.
I really like the dirty look and the graffiti in the back ground. i have another shot like this one but was taken in barcelona. I really like trying to photograph things this way because i love the colour, composition and the urban look about it.

Berlin Canon eos 40d 17-85mm

(Barcelona) Canon eos 40d 17-85mm

This Photograph below was taken in a weird place in Berlin. To get to it i had to go thought a flat and all of a sudden i was in this very strange place with surreal statues of animals and aliens.

More photographs taken in the same place as above.

Slaughter farm (set)

I thought i would put my slaughter farm photographs in this category because it defiantly felt on the day really serial and unusual.

My photojournalism photography. I must say these photographs are disturbing and is not for the faint hearted. This is documenting what goes on and how people let it go on. The place i photographed didn't want me to disclose any information and i agreed. I must say this is one of my best sets and is as close as i have ever been to the dead. I want to be a photojournalist and think the more i document work like this then the easier it will be in the future.
