Professional Practice photo shoot

Below is a powerpoint presentation slide show of research, ideas and inspiration that i'm sending out to models, make up artists and hair designers. Producing this slide show gives me a better and much clearer understanding of what type of shoot i am going to do.

This also gives a better understanding of what i am after in terms of lighting, locations, outfits, make up, hair and even the style or theme i am after. It also shows the model or hair stylist what i'm thinking of doing and what it is thats on my mind. Doing this will give them more ideas and maybe help me come up with some sort of strategy or plan.

Below are slides of the presentation.

1st slide

...............
2nd slide

Screen shot from google maps. this is a location which is about 20mins away from my house.
I have visited this location about four times now and it can be scary at times. As its a screenshot from powerpoint and also a screenshot from google maps its not really blown up and is difficult to see but the building on the left is not like this now. It looks really old and is abandoned. The windows are all boarded up and does look rather creepy at night.

.......................
3rd slide

Another screen shot from google maps but this time from a different angle. Am trying to give the model or the people that will be working with me, more of a general view of the area and what the location will look like. I always feel its really good to do this as it shows you are interested and motivated to do well. Doing this also gets you talking to the model or who it is your collaborating with as then on the day you both are not feeling uncomfortable. Another screen shot. The hole building is joint together and the location we will be shooting in is at the other end, to the right. Again it doesn’t look like this now.

4th Slide

yet another screenshot from google maps at another angle of the location am going to be shooting my professional practice. Again this looks like its a new building  but its not.
To get inside we climb through a window which is located at the other end of this building.

5th slide

This photograph on this slide i found on google images when searching abandoned places with models.
What i like about this is not the location but the lighting, make up, hair and out fits. The pointy shoes the model on the left is wearing are amazing and i really wanted them for my shoot. I didn't know how i could get them or what the shoes where called but i done some research and asked around and found out that they're called ballet boots/ballet heels. They are very expensive and prices range for £90 to £120 pounds.

6th slide

After producing this slide show i sent this presentation out to the people that are interested in working with me. The model looked at this presentation and come up with an idea or concept about having news paper as a outfit. I then started to think more on this idea and then found this photograph.
I do feel this type of outfit would fit my idea really well.

7th Slide

The make up for my shoot is very important and this shoot needs to be the best as its for the professional practice assignment. In my case i am going to look for make up that stands out and is powerful.
As i want this shoot to be low key but also have a lot of detail, sharpness and good compression then the make up needs to be good. Am thinking of this but maybe more dramatic. Maybe in black as I think it would be more moody and eye catching!

.....................
8th slide

The movement, positioning and poses need to be different to any photo shoot i have done before. This shoot needs to be different and also challenging. With this idea in mind i would like a lot of blur and motion to my photographs. using long shutter speeds with increase my motion and i will start to get movement within my photograph. The positioning needs to be very controlled but also surreal.

lighting and outfits

The photographs on this slide show are photographs from a photographer called Andrew Farrington.
Not only is Andrew Farrington one of my favourite photographs but his work motivates me when its needed.  I look at his work and i find the lighting and composition amazing and for this assignment i am going to look at his work and start to think about how i can change and experiment with lighting. Andrew Farrington also has a way with the style of his work and i feel one of his strong points is the location and the out fits.

The photo shoot I have in mind I am trying to translate that emotion like every time im on a shoot. To create a sense of control and shape. I am not to concerned about the lighting with this shoot as I am aiming to have a feel and look of journalistic photography so not necessarily black and white but focusing more on the tones, shapes places and natural light. As a feel my photography has a feeling of communication, passion and weirdness to it I want to do this again and make my work stand out and look fashionable. For my individual studies I focused on journalism in terms of street photography, war corespondency and how the what effects does the photographer get when working in that environment, Also how do they get paid and how hard is it has a career. I was really interested and intrigued with how photo journalists worked in such away. Working in the studio at university has opened a range of skills to my photography as I was unsure about lighting and how light can effect a photograph quite rapidly. As I journalistic point of view photographers don't really worry about the light as they are capturing the surroundings and the subject of what is going on around them to display a story if you like. I think as I am interested in the outdoors and journalism to me is something photographs ether have it or they don't. I am more so now in to fashion and because of this my work has come on dramatically over the two years spent on my course.

So for my individual practice I am going to produce a set of images that involve the surroundings using natural light and a reflector if necessary. I am going to create photographs of fashion but with elements of what a feel is journalistic. I come up with the idea of photographing a ballerina in different dance forms in terms of controlling the models positions with the environment.I will be interested and looking for the light, shape, form and beauty. I have lots of locations in mind for this shoot and I know it's going to be a long day and the model, hair stylist and make up people are going to hate me when I have finished but I am positive that my work will show for its self.

I didn't think this idea has been one before and I was really looking forward to shooting but when researching and looking in to the fashion and journalistic styles I come across my idea and I was disappointed as I really did feel it was going to be something personal and good for my.

Below is some research i found:

I am having trouble when attaching photographs to this post so i will try again another time.

Words of wisdom i found from Andrew Farrington

I seen this when browsing facebook and it was on Andrew Farrington's quotes.

I don't know why i am blogging this but feel this quote is perfect because am going though some problems at the minute..

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway.

Ghetto Blaster

Boom boxes or Ghetto Blasters were commercially introduced in the late 1970s and was really popular around 1975 to late 1980s and doing this research about the 70's I found this time really interesting and have been inspired with this look and time. It's really made me think about doing a shoot like this for the fashion and for my mail theme I was thinking of doing 70's pop music and how fashion was with the Ghetto Blaster out as it was such a big thing in the day and I could get a really good photo shoot and have a great location in mind.

I found some photographs when searching Ghetto Blaster in google

Some of the photographs are for this link...

The Ghetto Blaster basically a large, portable, radio cassette player and was about 1.5 m wide and 1.0 m high. I really want do do a shoot with all this in mind as I think it would be a great opportunity for me and feel I could get some great photographs out of this.

Work based learning Dark-room poster

I was asked to create and come up with an idea or some sort of notice for the door before you enter the dark room as people are sometimes unaware of people processing film and could end up working in on someone wile the negatives or ilford paper it out and could result in the paper or negatives to be exposed at you don't want that to happen so to prevent this i come up with a poster for the door and this is what i come up with:

This is the picture I taken on my phone and I placed this in to photoshop and made a new canvas.

This is the first one I made and I thought a tight crop was good as it fitted the slide on the door but when I emailed kevin he told me to change the size to a4 but as it doesn't look right as its attached to my blog.

Work based learning screen calibration

On the 09/03 first thing I was asked to calibrate and sync the computers to get better colour tones. The software used was called Spyder3pro and the settings must be at .............................................once you have the software up and running and you have put the correct settings in and the settings are saves you then connect the spyder to the screen by jus simply placing it over the top which has a weight to balance the spyder to the monitor  after this I cleaned all the screens and made sure the lights where turned of and blinds lowered as I was told my Kevin that light and even touching the screen can interfere when the Spyder is calibrating.

This picture above is just an example of how the spyder sits on the screen and you can see how this is calibrating the monitor.

70's fashion clothing

I have started to look at 70's clothing as I really like the 70's music and would love to focus more on the clothing and make arraignments for a photo shoot. I could look at 70's clothing all day as i love the style and colours. I want to do lots of shoots as i really want to get a good mark and try hard with this assignment.
